Trauma Therapy
At Empowering You, all clinicians are trauma-informed and several have additional training in a few different modalities. We are EMDR and CPT-trained in order to meet the specific needs of our population. Whether someone has a clear traumatic event or history, or even developmental trauma, we are able to support you throughout your growth.
EMDR- Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a psychotherapy that enables people to heal from the symptoms and emotional distress that are the result of disturbing life experiences. Want more information? Check out this blog to help understand what EMDR entails and how it can be helpful. The EMDR International Association (www.emdria.org) has more specific information on how EMDR is used and how many people even without trauma, can find it helpful in their work. There are protocols around OCD, Substance use, Eating Disorders, Anxiety, Depression and more.
CPT- Cognitive processing therapy
Cognitive processing therapy (CPT) is a specific type of cognitive behavioral therapy that has been effective in reducing symptoms of PTSD that have developed after experiencing a variety of traumatic events including child abuse, combat, rape and natural disasters. CPT is generally delivered over 12 sessions and helps patients learn how to challenge and modify unhelpful beliefs related to the trauma. In so doing, the patient creates a new understanding and conceptualization of the traumatic event so that it reduces its ongoing negative effects on current life.
